Family Room Fun!!!

As a designer, I want everyone to be happy with their design, especially in a family space.

Here are issues to consider when designing your family room:

*create a focal point, fireplace, tv or media center
*cabinetry, storage for media, DVDs, gaming devices and other equipment
*comfortable seating, make sure you have seats for everyone, use fabrics that can be easily cleaned
*work/play areas, office area, have plenty of countertop space
*use ottomans, they can be moved, provide extra seating and storage
*flooring, should be easy to clean, provide color and absorb noise
*accents, use lamps, pillows, art, drapes, blinds, paint and furniture

Every family room should be a multifunctional space!

Be Creative With Color

Color can be exciting and dramatic, don’t be afraid to use color in your space!

1. Bursts of color in niches, halls or stairwells and even a powder room provide drama and attitude.

2.Use colors you love, not the standard blue for boys, try green, brown or black.

3. For a girls room, if you use pink pair it with brown or gray.

4. Paint is not the only way to bring in color, try using bold color with:

furniture
window treatments
accessories: rugs, pillows, lamps
art

Bold color doesn’t mean loud color, tone it down with natural wood tones, black or gray.
